What is necessary for a job in logistics?

Logistics is a sector full of job opportunities.
From C and CE drivers to truck mechanics, loaders, and warehouse workers—it’s a broad field with many different roles. The great thing about logistics? For many jobs, you don’t need a lot of prior experience. In fact, starting without specific knowledge can even be an advantage. These roles often rely more on motivation, dedication, accuracy, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves than on formal training.
A wide range of companies, a wide range of opportunities
The companies you can work for in logistics are incredibly diverse. Some are small and cozy, where you’re expected to do a bit of everything. Others are large-scale operations where big thinking and smart technology allow you to get an incredible amount of work done.
Whatever the role, your contribution matters. Every link in the chain is essential to the delivery of goods. Talk about important work!
In this article, we’ll take you through the dynamic and versatile world of logistics.

Logistics… we can’t live without it

In today’s world, we want everything delivered quickly and efficiently. You get an idea, open an app or website, click a few buttons—and boom, the logistics process kicks in.
“Ordered today, delivered tomorrow” means the real work begins—not for the customer, but for the people behind the scenes. And how great is it when your package arrives the next day, well-packed and protected from the weather?

That smooth process? It takes a lot of hard work every day.
So it’s no surprise that the logistics sector offers a large number of job opportunities. In our current economy, logistics is essential. It ensures the supply of everything we use—and we rely on it every single day.

Logistics requires a variety of skills—each role demands something different. Whether you’re involved in production, warehousing, or final delivery, every part of the chain matters. And the whole process needs to run smoothly and be perfectly coordinated.

    Let’s talk about transport

Transport is a vital part of logistics. In warehousing, petrochemicals, and manufacturing, operating a forklift or reach truck is a must. Think transport, delivery services, or heavier logistics work.
Of course, goods need to be moved to the end user. For forklifts, you’ll need a valid certificate. A VCA (safety) certificate is often required too, depending on the work environment. Warehouses and factories are not the same.

If you want to work as a courier, a valid driver’s license and driving experience usually go a long way. For larger transport roles, you’ll typically need a C or CE license, code 95, and sometimes specific certifications (for example, when transporting chemicals).

    Logistics is a broad world

Logistics covers the entire process from production to the end user—from storage facilities to shops, companies, and private customers. You can work in a warehouse, or on the road as a driver or courier. Each job has its own responsibilities.
Warehouse workers, for example, often operate forklifts and prepare orders. Couriers and drivers load goods, check deliveries, and hit the road.
One thing is clear: logistics jobs rely heavily on structure and timing. If something goes wrong in one part of the chain, the whole line is delayed. You’ll need to be able to handle some pressure.

And let’s not forget about garbage trucks and their loaders—also part of the logistics sector! It’s important work, and while it may involve getting your hands dirty, it’s often a straightforward, no-nonsense job that gets things done with a strong team spirit.

Who’s a good fit for logistics work?

Do you like contributing to a bigger picture? Are you someone who understands the value of your role and knows that success depends on your input? If you like to roll up your sleeves, stick to agreements, and work accurately, logistics could be perfect for you.
If you can follow instructions and understand work orders, packing slips, and schedules—and you can work carefully but decisively—you’re the kind of professional the logistics world needs.
Problem-solving skills are essential, and being open to new ways of working is a big plus. Logistics is team-driven, so you’ll need to enjoy working with others.

The work can be physically demanding—and sometimes dangerous. That’s why safety is a top priority. Most workplaces have their own safety rules, often introduced through training videos during onboarding.
If you already have a VCA certificate, you might be able to start right away!
And if you hold a C or CE driver’s license? That boosts your chances even more.
